I’ve been reading the Gosho every day
It all started one morning after gongyo.
I had just read the quote of the day which came from Nichiren Daishonin's Letter to Misawa and it inspired me to read the whole gosho. I enjoyed it so much that I went on to read On Curing Karmic Disease and then decided to carry on every day. So far I’ve also read The Fourteen Slanders, The Two Kinds of Faith and now I’m on On Repaying Debt of Gratitude. I didn’t realise how long that one is; a week later and I’m still reading it, but boy is it fun reading. Even if not everything stays in my mind, sentences do spring to mind now and then.
“People live in this fleeting world where all is uncertainty and impermanence, yet day and night they think only of how much wealth they can amass in this life. From dawn to dusk they concentrate on worldly affairs, and neither revere the Buddha nor take faith in the Law. They ignore Buddhist practice and lack wisdom, idling their days away.”
This quote from The Fourteen Slanders struck a chord with me because up until this period I was doing just that; idling my days away by consuming online content which doesn’t move me towards the vision I want for my life.
I feel as if I’m getting to know Nichiren Daishonin’s personality and he’s become almost a friend. In my sleep I find that my dreams are more purposeful, and by that I mean the characters in my dreams have more conviction in the way they behave and they say wise things. They have a strong sense of mission and they inspire me to action. They say you take on the things you consume and this may be one of the manifestations of daily gosho reading in my life.
Have a go reading the gosho everyday and let me know what changes you see in your life.
