Reading about Buddhism every day

Updated: Dec 16, 2023

Woman with an afro sitting reading by a window sill.

It all started one morning after gongyo.

I had just read the quote of the day which came from Nichiren Daishonin's Letter to Misawa and it inspired me to read the whole gosho. I enjoyed it so much that I went on to read On Curing Karmic Disease and then decided to carry on every day. So far I’ve also read The Fourteen Slanders, The Two Kinds of Faith and now I’m on On Repaying Debt of Gratitude. I didn’t realise how long that one is; a week later and I’m still reading it, but boy is it fun reading. Even if not everything stays in my mind, sentences do spring to mind now and then.

This quote from The Fourteen Slanders struck a chord with me because up until this period I was doing just that; idling my days away by consuming online content which doesn’t move me towards the vision I want for my life.

They say you take on the things you consume and I can attest to that.

I am finding that the characters in my dreams have more conviction, in the way they behave and the things they say. They have a strong sense of mission and they inspire me, even though they're not real. I feel as if I’m getting to know Nichiren Daishonin’s personality.

Have a go reading about Buddhism every day and let me know what changes you see in your life.
